This indeed is an occasion long-awaited and overdue for St. Joseph Higher Secondary School (SJHSS) to launch its website. We have had the idea and intention to do this for quite some time, but due to various unavoidable circumstances, it did not happen up until now. I am extremely pleased to inform all students, staffs, guardians, friends, and well-wishers that now we have a website of our own: http://www.sjs.edu.bd
According to Dr. Atiur Rahman, governor of Bangladesh Bank, the universal role of Information and Communication Technology is vital for socio-economic development of a developing country like Bangladesh, and that a digital society is a knowledge-based society. He, therefore, reiterates that the Vision 2021of the government is that it "envisages a digital Bangladesh with excellence in information and communication technology and high performing inclusive economic growth". Atiqur Rahman, a journalist of Daily Prothom Alo highlights five focus areas of the knowledge paradigm that need to be at the core of the Vision 2021: (1) access to knowledge; (b) knowledge concepts; (c) creation of knowledge; (d) knowledge applications; and (e) delivery of services. To be more specific, Md. Anwarul Kabir, a freelance writer, emphasized establishing technology driven e-governance/commerce/ production/ agriculture/health etc. for overall development of the common people. To accelerate the materialization process of Vision 2021, The Bangladesh National ICT Policy 2009 sets the following objectives: social equity, productivity, integrity, education and research, employment, strengthening exports, heath-care, universal access, environment-climate-disaster management, and support to ICTs.
Of the five focus areas of the knowledge paradigm, one is creation of knowledge. This includes using existing resources better and discovering new resources. The website of St. Joseph Higher Secondary School will give its highest priority to help students to become contributors in this paradigm. The students will not only use present resources fruitfully, they will also take part into discovering and innovating new resources of knowledge through their academic and non-academic activities with the help of their teachers.
Keeping all of the above information in mind – focusing on the knowledge paradigms, technology driven e-services, ICT policies and their excellence in application – St. Joseph Higher Secondary School envisions its website to include a host of prospects for all of its stakeholders and well-wishers to know more about what this school is all about - administration, faculty, admissions, student life, curricular and extra-curricular activities, announcements, and so on. In addition, the website is also going to be developed gradually with inter-active facilities for various online activities such as admissions, submission of home-works and papers, test results, etc. to maximize the use of online potential.
On behalf of the family of St. Joseph Higher Secondary School, I extend to you all my warm wishes for this new year of 2011 and sincerely hope that this website will be a resource for all to know the school, its activities, and join together to contribute to the creation of knowledge to build our own selves as well the whole nation.
Dr. Harold B. Rodrigues, CSC
